A Message from the Speaker of the General Assembly

Four years ago the Student Representation Board came up with a new system of Student Government for CUA. Students were skeptical about how well it would do, if it could really be the representation that the Student Body deserved. We don't know that yet, we may not know for a while. But, the one thing that I can tell you is that SAGA is more than just another Student Government. It's a body that's lone goal is to actively represent your wants and needs as students.

Each of the 7 seats from each class are fought for vigorously. This past year has seen some of the most innovative student campaigning that the campus has ever seen. The Students at CUA want SAGA to succeed because they feel that SAGA has a potential to do well, and we on the body feel the same way. As the Speaker, it's not just my job to represent the body - it's my job to be its number one cheerleader and I can tell you that it's something I take very seriously. I really believe that we can be the Student Government that you want, that we can do the things you want us to do, and we can be your loud and boisterous voice to the administration.

But we can't do it alone. Without your input, without your comments, with your tweets, your status updates, your emails, your phone calls, your meetings - we can't do it. As it says in our Constitution, we recognize the need for "a united and dedicated voice" to provide for the enhancement of the undergraduate experience. In other words, we know that a thousand voices crying out is not going to get anything done. But twenty eight united and dedicated voices working together towards a common goal is only the first step towards creating real change here at Catholic University.

Thank you for giving us your support and please let us know what we can do for you.

Sincerely,

Leslie Martin
Speaker of the Student Association General Assembly
